Vaccination Communication

Communication between healthcare workers and older adults can play an important role in older people's decisions on whether to vaccinate. For healthcare workers to better support informed decisions about vaccination, they need:

  • appropriate training in communication skills, using effective educational approaches;
  • to be able to identify the older adults’ knowledge gaps, needs and concerns;
  • to apply their communication skills and to actively keep up‐to‐date with the latest evidence.

To this end, we have summarized evidence on:

  • the characteristics and effects of interventions or strategies for healthcare workers to enhance their ability to engage in a dialogue with older adults on vaccination;
  • healthcare workers' perceptions and experiences of communicating with older adults about vaccination.

We also provide further resources to support healthcare workers in their communication with older adults regarding vaccination.
